Why Change is Vital in the United States

As a country, the United States has been characterized by seasons of change since its very beginning.  We were founded on the principles of change as settlers sought out a land of freedom where they could worship as desired without the oppression of the English throne.  Change continued as we found new ways to structure our politics and government in a system of democracy like nothing the world had ever witnessed.

Today, our country is still in need of change.  We seem to have entered a season of incredible unrest as a nation.  You can stop any ordinary man or woman in the local supermarket and ask what our nation needs and you will get the resounding answer of “Change!” every single time.  While we all have different ideas for how the change should be carried out, we all agree that something has to change.  We cannot continue on the path we are on.

Some of the symptoms of our need for change are evident in the struggling economy.  Rising grocery prices and gas costs are hitting families hard.  Unemployment has soared in the past few years causing a spike in the number of families relying on government unemployment benefits to pay their bills.  Foreclosures are on the rise and many people are visiting churches and local food pantries to have their basic needs taken care of.  We cannot continue on in this way.

It seems that our nation has lived in abundance for so long that we have forgotten how to cope and survive in times of want.  We cannot continue to live such gorged lifestyles without consequences.  Change is vital to the United States and it has to start today.

How Unemployment is Affecting Americans

Reports for August of 2010 showed that unemployment was on the rise again.  There were an estimated 54,000 people who filed for unemployment compensation in August that did not require it in July.  Officials have insisted that these people were mostly workers who were temporarily employed with the Census during tax season, but many are doubtful.

The scary fact is that nearly half of those Americans that are currently unemployed have not had a job in over two years.  With that in mind, the country would have to provide a minimum of 150,000 new job positions every 30 days to even begin to provide employment for the newcomers to the job market along with those who are currently out of work.  As you can see, this is no small task and it will certainly not happen overnight.

Unemployment is having a profound effect on many American families.  As people go out of work, families must tighten their belts.  They are cutting out excess spending such as eating out or going to the movies.  This further damages the economy leading to layoffs in restaurants and theaters.  Families are unable to make their mortgage payments and eventually face foreclosure.  With foreclosure rates sky rocketing, the number of homeless people is also climbing.  Many large cities have long lines waiting to gain an overnight space at a homeless shelter each day.  Some shelters are turning away hundreds of people because they simply do not have the space to house them.

In all the ways that our country is struggling, unemployment is definitely the one area that is crippling us most.  We must find ways to create new jobs every single day if we are going to turn our economy around.

Spending My Saturday Catching Up On News

Finally, it is the weekend and I can do whatever I want until Monday. Even though it seems like the weekend flies by, I always enjoy my Saturday mornings. This is my favorite time during the week because I can just sit on the couch with my newspaper, a cup of coffee and cozy blanket. My favorite section of the paper has all of the current US news stories so I can stay up to date on what is going on in the country.

Though I really love reading the paper, I have also starting going online to find out more about some stories. When I do a search online for a story that I have been following, I can find a list of links that all go to different sites. They all have a little bit different view on the story so I can see it from more than one perspective. What I don’t like about reading the news on my computer is that it just isn’t as cozy as sitting on the couch with a newspaper.

Sometimes I am just in the mood for gossip news. When this happens, I turn to magazines. While they don’t always have the latest breaking story like the paper, I can sit and read about gossip news in the US and around the world and not give it a whole lot of thought. I am so glad that there are so many different sources for news and I get to enjoy a quiet weekend learning about what going on around the country.

Americans Continue Debating Health Care Reform

With the upcoming election there has been a lot of buzz around the Health Care Reform bill. Some people are in favor of the bill while others are not in favor of the bill. The biggest problem with the health bill for most people is the fact that the bill essentially forces you to have healthcare. If you do not have health insurance you will be fined for not having that health insurance. It is stated that this fine would be enacted when you file your taxes.

Many opponents of this healthcare bill state that the bill itself is unconstitutional while people for the bill state that it will increase better healthcare for everyone. Benefits of the healthcare bill include that no one will be able to deny you insurance because of a previous condition or a condition that you have now and the fact that overall healthcare should get better with lower premiums and more of a watchful eye over doctor’s and other health care agencies.

This bill however with all of its controversy has now landed in the Supreme Court. Many law makers and lower courts have deemed it wrong to require someone to have health insurance because of the simple fact that not everyone can afford health insurance and that the bill is unconstitutional and it goes against the rights of the American people. The bill is still on the Supreme Court’s door and is still being looked at while the people who want the bill are still out there campaigning for this health care reform to pass for a greater health care system in the future. The Supreme Court has not yet released when it will strike a ruling on the health care bill.

Why Mitt Romney Would Be a Good President

We are back into an election year and we start seeing all the candidates fight for that spot as President of The United States of America. There are already some Republican Party candidates that have been campaigning since last year. One has stood out above all the rest and that person is Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney has been a a consistent candidate since day one and there are many reasons why he would make a great president.

One reason why he would be a good president is because when he says he is right, he is right. When Mitt Romney is asked a question, he answers right every time. There is never any argument that Mitt Romney answers questions correctly and admits when he does not know something, which is very rare. He is able to answer tough questions that the America people have and want answers to. Another reason why Mitt Romney would make a good president is because he looks up and at people. He never shy’s away or backs down to people when they talk to him or ask him questions. He is very confident and you always know he is proud to be an American and will fight for us no matter what.

Mitt Romney is also very happy and upbeat. It is very seldom that you do not see him smiling or happy about the amazing life he has lived and is living. Most people want a president that will encourage us in tough times and also come through for us when we need him. There are so many other reasons that Mitt Romney would make a good president and will win over the hearts of America.

The Primary Race Continues

As of this week, 3 of the major primaries have already taken place and the race to be 2012 Republican Nominee for President is certainly heating up. Candidates left in the chase are Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum. Each primary has had a different winner, which mean’s it’s anyone’s guess at this point who the official nominee will be for the GOP.

One issue that the candidates are divided on is the future of NASA. It was discussed for several minutes during the debate this week in Florida. Newt Gingrich already has a plan, if elected, for NASA, which includes the construction of a manned moon base colony by around 2020. The other candidates, while they appreciate and support the space program, think Gingrich’s ideas aren’t all that practical and will cost too much money.

Mitt Romney said he felt the money that would be spend funding and maintaining a moon colony would better be spent on rebuilding housing in the United States. Rick Santorum said that while big ideas for the space program were wonderful, and a great way to get votes – it just wasn’t practical in the current economic crisis, and that the United States needed to “be careful in how we allocate our resources.” Ron Paul, often criticized for his radical ideas, feels that the money that would go to rebuilding and reinventing the space program could be better spent on health care – which is another hot button issue for voters.

With the Florida primary on the horizon, it will be interesting to see who emerges the front runner in the race for the White House.

A Little Hot Tub Etiquette

Most of us would likely agree that the most stressful invitations are those that leave us a little confused and a lot concerned. A prime example of this type of invitation would be one that asks you over for dinner and oh, by the way, included is a little pre-dinner soak in one of those fancy Jacuzzis or indoor saunas. Did Marilyn Monroe Really Die?

It doesn’t matter where you live or what your nationality is, it seems like you always run into someone who is quick to point out that the government is working to hide some sort of conspiracy. Some of these people make really good points and you will often find yourself agreeing with them. The government always says that there isn’t any conspiracy that they don’t hide things but it isn’t like there is a way to prove them wrong. Besides, once in a while the government missteps and the fact that they are less than honest come to light.

The most famous of all supposed US government conspiracies is Roswell UFO Incident. The government claims that they were recovering a balloon experiment that they were working on, but to this day, many believe that aliens landed at Roswell and the government is trying to hide their existence.

A less famous potential government conspiracy revolves around some people, who at the time were the most famous people in the world. The death of the stunning beauty, Marilyn Monroe has always puzzled people. Officially the cause of her death has always been a drug overdose, but one of the people closest to her at the time, Joe DiMaggio believed that there was a great deal more to the story than any one released. He claims that her death was actually ordered by President Kennedy.

The basis for DiMaggio’s claim was the fact that he said some things, including a diary, where missing. Many people wonder if Monroe was killed because she knew something that the White House didn’t want her to reveal.

In addition to being involved with both Kennedy and DiMaggio, Monroe was also romantically linked with Frank Sinatra which made some people wonder about the possibility of a mafia connection.

Change in the Political World

As President Barak Obama approaches the end of his term in the White House, people are starting to wonder what will happen in the United States in the days ahead.  As a nation, we collectively held out breath as President Obama was sworn in.  His promises for change were like water to our parched souls as unemployment was rising and foreclosures were leaving people homeless each day.

Some people feel that the President’s promises for change were nothing but an election strategy.  Little has improved in our country since he came into office.  In fact, many things have gotten worse, but he has consistently blamed that on the after effects of decisions made by our former president, George W. Bush.  It seems that no one in the White House can ever take personal responsibility for the current state of affairs in our government.

Despite grumblings that President Obama has not ignited change, he has in fact made a lasting impression on the nation.  Whether you are Republican or Democrat, you were undoubtedly affected in some way by the government bail outs that were handed out when he first came into office.  Whether you agreed with them or not, you were impacted by them in some way.  Maybe your town received new paving on its highways or a new bank building.  Everyone sees the money in some way, shape, or form.

Unfortunately, your children and grandchildren are also going to feel the effects of change at the hands of those bail outs.  That money will have to be repaid somehow.  It will likely fall on the heads of our kids to handle it.  We are setting them up for failure financially while teaching them that this is the celebrated change that we had hoped for in the political world.

Proposed Solutions for a Failing Economy

No one can deny that the United States is struggling economically.  As China stands poised over our heads like a supervising parent, it is apparent that our monumental levels of debt have got to stop.  Politicians have been proposing solutions for our failing economy for ages.  Yet, it seems that nothing has really been accomplished.  In turn, Americans are starting to express their own opinions in open forums and town hall meetings.  Here are some of the most commonly proposed solutions for our failing economy.

1. Create Jobs.
Despite the sound of it, this is no easy task.  Yet, many Americans argue that if we would stop outsourcing all of our work to China and other foreign countries, we would quickly boost our economy and cut unemployment dramatically.  Since so many jobs have gone overseas, our local economies have been struggling.  If we bring our jobs back home, it will benefit everyone.

2. Legalize Marijuana.
This is a can of worms that most politicians will not touch, but Americans bring it up frequently in forums.  Since the market for marijuana is alive and well underground, why not bring it to the surface and tax it?  It would be amazing how much money the government would make if they would take advantage of this substance that people are using anyway, legal or not.

3. Stop the Bail Outs.
Americans are sick and tired of watching government money pay for road workers to stand in the highways eating sandwiches.  Visit the forums and town hall meetings and you will hear growing concern over our nation’s debt.  The unanimous cry of Americans is “Stop the bail outs!”

It Should Be Everyone’s Job to Turn Around the US Economy

Can you go anywhere today without being reminded of the sad state of the American economy?  It seems that no matter where you look or what newspaper you read, there is optimism that the recession is ending, but don’t tell that to those Americans who are still unemployed.  The truth is, it really is everyone’s responsibility to help turn around our economy.

You may be asking yourself, how exactly can I help to turn around the economy when I am in dire straits financially myself?  Well, for starters, you can make sure to buy as many American made products as possible.  Buying products that are made in American by American workers means that money is staying in our country instead of being shipped overseas.

If you are a business owner, times are extremely tough.  How can you keep your business above water while still maintaining your hardworking employees?  Well, as a business owner you have to realize that in good economic times, you typically make a great living.  Well, sometimes when we are experiencing difficult economic times, you also should feel that pain as a business owner.  Maybe you will need to bid on jobs at a lower profit margin just to stay in business.  If you can do this, you should because you will want all of your employees to be trained and ready when the recession ends and business starts booming again.

There really is a lot that we can all do to make these times easier on all of us.  It might mean that we have to give up some of the luxuries that we are used to, but that is better than living the high life while those around you willow in misery.
